Star Trek
Film Ranks

Don't get me wrong, I love Star Trek films. However, I need to get one thing out of the way right off the top: if I was ranking all of the different series' in order of preference and included the major motion pictures as one giant 13 episode block, they would finish at the bottom.
When it comes to the films, all I'm looking for is a great two-hour episode.
That's what I want from Star Trek. And if you want me to choose between Star Trek: Generations or a TNG two-parter like Gambit or Redemption or Chain of Command (I could keep going), I'm going to choose the two-hour TNG episode every single time. It is for this reason I am in the minority when it comes to how I feel about Star Trek: insurrection. I love it because it feels more like a two-hour episode of Star Trek than any other film.
Additionally, when it comes to the JJ Abrams' Star Trek films, I count myself as a huge fan and supporter. Not only have they opened up Star Trek to a whole new legion of fans, but they are true to Star Trek's sense of exploration and examination of morality. If you are one of the JJ naysayers out there and can't see the forest through the trees, it's your loss. They are superb films and have fully earned their high positions in my breakdown below.

Also, if you are looking for the made-for-TV streaming movie Star Trek: Section 31 here, you won't find it. It's not a major motion picture. It's eligible for the Emmys, not the Oscars. It's apples and oranges. Right now Section 31 is on a list of its own: one single Star Trek TV movie. Hopefully they make more, and then we can rank those, too!
